Default Occasion Noise =-> Loud Rattle & No Power :-(

Hi, I posted a thread a few weeks back regarding how I was hearing a noise from the engine bay when pressing / releasing the accelerator.
Started the car up today and there is now a terrible noise at idle and the car seems to have no power. Strangely, no codes have been thrown.
Enclosed is a video of the noise.

So, I have two questions:
1) Does anyone have any guesses as to what new and expensive problem I have ?
i) I did have the oil consumption issue resolved on this car and have replaced the timing chain tensioner & water pump
2) Am I correct in assuming I should have it towed to the dealer ?

Help!

Brian

Man, that does not sound good by any means, you should definitively tow it to the dealer. BTW, when was the oil consumption fix performed?

Hey Uncleiggy, the oil consumption issue was resolved about 18 months ago. Unfortunately the work had a relatively short warranty of 1 year / 20,000 KM.
On the plus side, it hasn't burned a drop of oil since.

Thanks,

Brian

That was a short warranty indeed. Do you have a VAGCOM cable at hand to scan the car?

Hi Uncleiggy, I've scanned with Carista, but it found nothing. I'll arrange to have a buddy scan it with his VAGCOM in the next day or two.

Thanks,

Brian

Yeah, you need VAGCOM, Carista does not go that deep, I own both (Carista & VAGCOM) but only use Carista for some simple codings like reseting service intervals, putting rear brakes in service mode and so on, VAGCOM for all the rest, especially before leaving the car at the dealer, they are excellent at finding (perfectly fine) things to repair you know.

If anyone is curious, that was the sound of a spun bearing, broken piston, destroyed crankshaft and several thousand dollars flying out of my wallet.
I'm not sure if this was related to the previous oil consumption issue, but Audi kindly split the cost of the repair with me.

Sorry to hear about that, hard pill to swallow
Now, how come a professionally repaired engine blows in 18 months, did your dealer give any explanation?

No, no explanation was given on why the engine self-destructed.

Time to move on from this expensive experiment I think.

And what did this new repair consist on? New block or just internals? Did they give you any warranty on this new job?
