Default OEM trailer hitch and motorcycle carrier

Id like to install a trailer hitch on my 2016 Q5 TDI and a motorcycle carrier to carry a 275# dirt bike. Is this a viable option or would I be better off with a trailer?

275 sounds like a lot of weight. Tongue weight spec on Q5 factory 2" hitch is 200kg/440lbs max. I did it once with a 150 Vespa on a minivan, but that was already starting to feel pretty loaded up.

wouldn't the 275 lbs vs the 440 max load. be safe?

Sorry, I read it as 275 cc's (and thus a fairly powerful bike), but now I realize it is likely 275 pounds. 275 pounds would work, like if it is a 90cc or 125 or some such.

My motorcycle rack is steel and weighs about 60 lbs. My WR250R weighs about 300 lbs fuel and tail bag loaded. It works fine but my next bike will be about 50 lbs lighter.
I take it easy and the Q5 sags very little considering the load. One consideration is that the tail lights are blocked from view and auxiliary lights plugged in to the trailer connector is a good idea.

Totally viable. Not sure how much my FE250 weighs but it is more than stock with the guards everywhere on it. Using a Versahaul hitch carrier as well.

Zero issues. Trailers suck the motorcycle carrier is a game changer.

Sorry for the sidebar here but hey simplesez, what tires are you running there? I've got the Pirellis that came with car but as you know, could use something a little more suitable for the mountains in winter. I'm on the western slope.

I have Goodyear Eagles on now. I run a separate set of 19 inch wheels with Michelin X-ice tires in the winter. I am a big fan of seasonal wheel changes.

Same here. I always had Nokian for winter on past Audis. Thanks for the info.

simplesez looks like you've got it rough ! Cruise the Q5 up into the mountains, grab the bike and take a rip.Is that machine a husky ? Two of my boys ride KTMs out in the Canadian Rockies.Endless forestry roads > 120k kms.I presume it's similar where you're at ?
