Oil change
I've an 09 Q5 3.2L and I'm going to get oil change at my mechanic not the dealer this time. The dealer used to put castrol edge 5w-40 but I can't find 5w-30 near my location. My question is: will it be ok to use 5w-30? Also if I switched from castrol to Mobil 1, will this make any difference. By the way, I've 59400 on the clock now...... Thanks and merry christmas to all :)

The majority of "5W30" oils are "energy conserving" and won't meet the min HTHS spec for your engine. It's pretty simple. IMO, the easiest oil to find is the Mobil 1 0W40 product over at W*mart where you'll find a 5 qt jug for $24.xx. This oil meets 502.00 and many other Euro certifications. Autozone used to carry the Castrol 5W40 oil. Is that no longer the case? |

As Spijun notes, you probably want to run an oil that meets one of the two VAG specs: 502.00 or 504.00
