I got mine done under warranty at 92,000 miles. But that was 2 years ago.

Independent shop will be more I’d suspect.

How did you go about getting it fixed past the 80k mile window? Did you talk to Audi of America by email or phone call? I got declined on a phone call. I just wrote audicare an email asking for a reconsideration. Fingers crossed.

How did you manage to get them to fix it under warranty? Who in Audi of America did you talk to? Was it by email or phone?

Dealer went to bat for me. They fixed it on good will. Might need to find another dealer. Or tell them you’ll never buy an Audi from them or at all if they don’t elevate this and you’ll publicly plead you case as to how crappy these cars are.

hi, sorry I'm late to the game but I have a 2011 with this problem. Is it covered as of 2018 if the car has 78000 miles on it?

I think so. I believe it was 10 years and 80k miles.

But google the court settlement.

yup! I found it. its 8 years or 80,000 miles. I was told to buy a lotto ticket since i have 78000 miles and it expires for my car in april of this year. I have to put 2 Q of oil in the car in between oil changes and i drive a max of 5,000 miles per year. I love my little A5. It will need to be pried out of my cold dead hands.

How many oil changes per year do you do? Miles between changes?

If you are saying that you put in 1 quart of oil every 2500, miles then you most likely will not fail the oil consumption test, and may not have your engine repaired.

You also most likely have the timing chain tensioner version that is prone to fail and cause a possible $7K worth of engine damage/repairs at a dealer. If you didn't have the tensioner replaced, at 78K miles you are pushing your luck.

Also, this is the Q5, not A5 forum.

I do the recommended one per year since i only drive about 5,000 per year. Just checked my log book and it was 3 added quarts since my oil change in January of 2018 and 4500 miles put on the car. A quart every 1500 miles seems a bit excessive, no? Also for timing chain it would be 60% covered if you are between 75000 and 85000 miles. Sorry didn't mean to offend by posting in the Q5 forum, this is the only place that talked about the oil consumption test.

Well, first you stated 2 quarts in 5K miles, or 1 quart in 2500, now you are saying it is 1 quart per 1500 miles. Seeing that you have 78K miles on the car and the fix cut off is 80K miles, you better go quite quickly to the dealer and get an oil consumption test done (it's at your cost). Did the dealer perform all the oil changes, if so, you are covered nicely, if you did them, or an independent shop, be prepared to have Audi to question helping you out.

There is no current approved timing chain tensioner class action that I know of, only a proposal. I could be wrong.

You owner's manual usually states that Audi considers 1 quart of oil per 600 miles acceptable. We all know that this really isn't acceptable to the owner but it covers Audi legalities...………….
