No one expected the Macan and SQ5 to cost the same. But if you are careful, you can get a nicely optioned Macan for the price of many SQ5s. I can easily do without the lane departure and adaptive cruise control wizardry (I'm the driver), don't want the sunroof or the 21" boy-racer wheels, and still get the NAV, adjustable suspension, heated seats and more, plus some cool bling like the Porsche emblem hub caps and the dash mounted compass. An SUV with the cachet and racing heritage of Porsche. The one to buy right now is the SQ5, because we can, but what about a year from now.

my sq5 build in canada is 66100, and 62700 in the USA. not too bad at all...well done audi.

my Macan turbo build in canada 104315, and 91600 in the USA. WTF shame on Porsche.

Why is audi a 5.4% premium in canada yet ****ing porsche is a 13.8% premium.....

Porsche may sell in the states...but in Canada...this is a case of porsche pricing helping to sell more audis... freaking BS pricing. Im closer to an sq5 after seeing this.

If Porsche had a 5.4% premium that Macan would be a more reasonable 96546.....I salute Audi for bring nearer to parity.

the 1000 dollars canadians get shafted for delivery vs USA is not included...or the 13% tax. Thats just more pain vs the above.

Yeah, don't get the Canada/US thing. I configured a Macan S with every option I wanted and a few more that I could have done without except they came with a package for $67K. This included upgraded wheels, sound, seats, torque vectoring, NAV, and more, pretty close to the SQ5 USA price for your car. Of course, the Macan Turbo price is outrageous, but this may be the genius of Porsche's pricing. They sell a Macan that I can afford and also one any NFL player would be proud to have in his driveway.

And people were giving me crap earlier for saying pricing b/w SQ5 and Macan S is close, in the U.S. It can be if you don't go crazy as Porsche let's you do.

It's all about comparable equipment. Sure a base Macan can be had at a price not far above the SQ5, but add a few options that you want, and the price can soar. A fully loaded SQ5 is priced in the low 60's, while the Porsche Macan is significantly more. Even so, the Macan will sell well in the US. The Cayenne was a little big for my tastes, but the Macan looks about right. Not sure about the slope of the rear roof, as it certainly will somewhat decrease the cargo space.

On the bright side, the free trade agreement coming btw Canada and the EU should eliminate the 6.1% duty on Euro vehicles. Yes, Porsche is punitive with Canadian pricing. The secret to buying a Porsche is to order one a la carte and not to choose the ridiculously optioned ones sitting on the lot. I tend to be a minimalist, so I can play that game. But for those who like "bells and whistles", it can be painful. I'm toying with getting a Boxster S, and my build is "only" $10k above base price, which I consider to be a bit of a victory in the Porsche world. BTW, this Canadian pays 5% tax.

When i retire…..im leaving ontario. its lie getting a 8% boost in your fixed income…lol

The main reasons Canadian prices are higher is the exchange rate vs Euro (CAD is worth slightly less than USD), and volume of cars, which is a small fraction of that sold in US.

Another way to say it's all about comparable equipment is to say if these two vehicles have the same options, then they're the same, which I think everyone would agree is not the case. Despite both vehicles sharing the same platform, it's not the options which makes the Macan a Porsche, or the SQ5 an Audi. I'm not even sure it's fair to say the SQ5 is a better value, but it does cost less.

The Turbo has a lot of options baked into the price, so it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Not saying the Turbo is a deal by any means, but it should be more like a $10-12k premium over a similarly equipped Macan S.

Oh, it's certainly fair to say that...
