While this is not something I would do myself, I can appreciate the depth and breadth of your posts here. Have you considered quitting your day job and re-writing maintenance manuals instead?
BTW, where's the 10th Torex screw?

Nice write up, thanks!
My only comment is about your oil selection assuming you used the M1 5W30 pictured. It doesn't meet the written spec for the engine in your vehicle.
I think if we're going to self-maintain, we need to make every effort to use approved products as they establish a baseline minimum level of performance. You don't want anyone to be in a position to deny you future warranty coverage due to the use of inappropriate products

You got me. Although 5W 30 synthetic use is approved in the manual and Mobil 1 is approved on the Audi website only the 0W-40 Mobil 1 has the VW502 00 certification so I guess I have to get that junk out of my Q5 ASAP.
Here's the link to the list of approved oils on the AudiUSA website.

And the Audi filter says "hand tight" right on it. Their words, not mine.

Don't get me wrong, the M1 5W30 is an excellent product, it just doesn't carry the required spec. That's all I was trying to communicate.
There are loads of compliant oils for sale in the USA. I've been buying from AZ Autohaus recently as they have free shipping on orders > $50. I bought a couple of 5L containers of the ELF/TOTAL product last week and a couple of singles for topping off. The 5L size was $37.xx
I think WaMart may have the M1 0W40 for a good price. That works too.

The Castrol ran me $28.99 @ Advanced Autoparts plus a free Bosch filter that I will be selling on ebay.

MOF, did Advance have the 5W40 oil? I don't see that in my local store, only over at Autozone.

Yeah, I would definitely get the M1 5W-30 outta there. With it's low Energy Conservng High Temp High Shear, it would probably shear to a 20 grade pretty quickly.
Actually, Amsoil does not meet any of the specs listed. It's a very good oil, and may meet the specs if Amsoil submitted them, but it actually states that it is recommended in vehicles requiring the specs but doesn't claim to meet them.
