The other thing is that they are saying the new model may get a drop in power to like 320hp and that is starting to make sense to me. As they will introduce Macan next year and that being almost a copy of q5 with top engine in about 370hp, it does make sense for Audi to lower the q5 output to not affect Macan sales. Does that make any sense?
And yes, I am trying to talk myself into buying an sq5 like now.

I haven't heard much about the new gen, but if it loses 200 lbs. that would be better than adding any weight. Some manufacturers are touting lower weight and horsepower with equal or greater performance and fuel efficiency. The new MDX falls into this group so maybe it wouldn't necessarily be a bad direction for the new Q5. It will be interesting to see more details as time goes by.

There is also the government mandate in the US that fuel economy has to improve every year. That will not help making those cars faster either.

Very unlikely Audi will drop hp. More likely Porsche will tune its top of the line trim to around 370 hp and price it accordingly. I'd feel more comfortable with SQ5. Not only less $, but all kinks have been worked out vs first year model that Macan will be

I bought a 911 2S cab in 2012 soon after release. Very minimal problems. Porsche has an excellent reliability record unlike Audi. I decided to buy the SQ5 because I do think it will be better value and I don't like the "porsche" look on SUV's.

Buy an SQ5 now. Just do it.

I'd pay attention to the next gen A4 that's coming out. I suspect there will be design and styling cues that will carry to the Q5.

the next generation A4 will be a great indication of where things are going.

also the next generation Q7 will be interesting to see as well:
