Q5 Oil dipstick installed

Thanks to all on this forum, as with your assistance, I ordered and today installed what is apparently an acceptable dipstick for the 3.2 FSI engine - it is part # 06E-115-611-H (works for A4 and others). Seems to work fine, as the oil level is even with the top of the plastic.

Better than the new BMWs, as some of them do not even have a spot to install a dipstick - electronic monitoring only!

I also bought the dip stick, but I use it only to check the oil level, I did not leave it in the engine because I was not sure it would stand hot temp. of the oil -the thing is made of plastic..

Can anyone confirm it can be left in the engine?

thanx

I think all are plastic now. The one on my RS4 is plastic and I leave it in all the time

Thanks Kent for the tip. Was the installation easy?

Yes, you remove the black plastic plug and insert the dipstick. The wire looks robust and, as stated, most of my recent cars had plastic on both ends of the dipstick, so I think you're good to leave it in the car. I'm sure I'd lose mine somewhere in the garage, so it's easier just to leave it in the Q5.

I bought one and installed it ~6wks ago. The plastic appears to be durable enough to leave in the engine without degradation.
