Q5 Recall

Hi Folks,

Just read a bit about a recall for Q5 (at least in the German Speaking Region). Any one heard anything for NA???.... Audi Guys in the forum???

One source is a car forum in Germany and the other the Ministry for Transportation (published Dec. 17th, 2009).

For those who can read German:
http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/q5-ru...-t2508883.html
http://www.kba-online.de/gpsg/jsp/gpsg5.jsp (need to choose Audi, Q5, Year 2009). Year 2009 over there can also be our NA MY2010!

What is it about?

In the case of an accident and release of the 'head' air bag there is a possibility that the lining of the A-Pillar can come off. For passengers in the front this can be an increased risk of an injury.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

From NHTSA (for USA Model Year 2009):

Make: AUDI
Model: Q5
Model Year: 2009
Manufacturer: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC
Mfr's Report Date: DEC 14, 2009
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V484000
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: AIR BAGS
Potential Number of Units Affected: 6054

Summary:
VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 Q5 PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 25, 2008 AND JUNE 4, 2009. A LEFT AND/OR RIGHT A-PILLAR TRIM COVER CLIP MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED CORRECTLY, ALLOWING THE A-PILLAR TRIM TO BECOME LOOSE WHEN THE SIDEGUARD HEAD PROTECTION AIRBAGS DEPLOY DURING A CRASH.

Consequence:
IF THIS HAPPENS, A LOOSE TRIM PIECE COULD INJURE THE FRONT SEAT OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE.

Remedy:
VOLKSWAGEN WILL INSPECT THE CLIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT A-PILLAR COVERS AND REPLACE IT FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-253-2834.

Notes:
VOLKSWAGEN SAFETY RECALL NO. 70D4/J6. OWNERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV .

Thanks for the info. Dumb question - why is Volkswagon listed as the manufacturer, not Audi?

Audi is part of VW, sort of like Lexus is owned by Toyota

VW is the parent company, they own Audi. They also issue the standards and specs.
