2012 Q5 valve cover oil leak?
Hey guys, I noticed an oil leak on my wife's Q5 today. It is running down from the intake are down the driver's side of the block where it meets the transmission. I assume it is a valve cover gasket but can not see exactly where it is coming from. My A4 had this same issue and Audi replaced the gasket at 114,000 miles. The Q5 is over the 4 year but under the 50,000 mile warranty. We bought it used and the local dealer stated it wont be covered under warranty. Wasn't there a recall or TSB on this?
My local VW guy said the sealant it $250 a tube and it is a 3-4 hour job to clean to old stuff out and reapply. That sounds crazy but I do remember Audi telling me my A4 would have been 3-4,000 if it wasn't covered!
Can someone help clarify here why the A4 would be covered and the Q5 wouldn't?
