I wonder what year they added this? I have a 2011. I'll have to check for the fuse and reference in the manual. I only have a premium model and don't remember seeing anything in the MMI.

The 2011 does not have this feature. Luckily the heat works very fast when running gas and the supplementary heater is pretty much not necessary.
When running high ethanol content fuel heat is very slow that is why the supplementary heater was added.

IIRC this is in the Hybrid too. But, I wouldn't rush to think its a great thing. I have a version of these in the A8--in the air ducting on each side to the rear to keep temps more even.
Honestly from seeing hundreds of scans posted on the board there over the years, probably the single most common failure in a scan--literally almost all of them once ten years old. Common simple resistance wire mounted in a section of air duct. $300+ each for part to replace on that one, x 2 for the two sides it has.

My 2014 Q5 is 2.5 years old, 7300 miles on, and I plan to dump it when my 4 year warranty runs out.............

Very nice find, Bob.
But do you have the optional "vaping" attachment, so those hot wires can also allow everyone in the car to "smoke" the same materials at the same time?(G)
"No, really, officer, that stuff just comes out of the vents all the time."
