It's usually approximately a $7K repair job at the dealer. I don't think that you should be so "glad"!

Dealer quoted me about 2k for new timing belt.

If it's a 2.0T (you didn't state what engine you have) and the timing chain tensioner goes, it usually bends the valves and does other damage to the head, that's where the $7K bill comes from.........

Thanks for the heads up. Yes 2.0. Ended up trading it in site unseen for 14k last night. Told them it needed a timing chain. Car has been nothing but issues, turbo had issues, AC doesn't work at idle and burns through oil. Thanks again for the heads up.
