Q5 8R 2.0 TFSi Racechip RS bluetooth, Intercooler and R8 / SQ5 spark plugs upgrade

This thread will be updated as time progresses. There are two Racechip RS models. One with and one without Bluetooth. Racechip RS without Bluetooth has 6 manual settings on the box. I will be reviewing Racechip RS with Bluetooth which is different and comes with 3 performance modes activated by the racechip app:
1. Efficiency
2. Sport
3. Race
Racechip App comes in addition to the performance modes with
a. Stock tune (disable/enable Racechip)
b. Warm up timer (time delay) for activating racechip
The 3 modes can be adjusted by customer service and firmware can be updated online. When I ordered I sent to the customer service ECU firmware information (not sure if that was taken into account).
First step: Unboxing

Cable harness with 4 connectors is different than installation manual illustrated harnesss with 2 connectors (turbo boost pressure sensor). Will be waiting for racechip support reply regarding the additional 2 connectors. (one pair is marked A and the other pair marked C on the cable harness photo). No information is given in the user manual.

Will be waiting for their revised illustrated manual. However A should be turbo boost sensor, B does only exist - only in racechip model GTS (manifold sensor), and C is the Camshaft sensor. (from audiworld A4 B9: Racechip installed)

Note GTS is a more advanced model with 10 HP in addition to the RS model. Probably the racechip R model gets only the A pair of connectors.
Racechip models: RS and GTS can be ordered with Bluetooth support (additional Bluetooth hardware).
GTS model: 3 pair of connectors A B C (verified)
RS model: 2 pair of connectors A C (verified)
R model: 1 pair of connectors. A (to be verified)

(previous racechip ultimate 2 channel came with A and B connectors. Wonder why they changed their design compared to racechip RS)

This information is not on their website but it is a strong selling point in deciding which model you will eventually get. For me RS bluetooth price/features/power i.e. best value for money, was a strong selling point. However GTS Bluetooth seems to be a more complete hardware tuning system.

No information is given if racechip without Bluetooth if it can be firmware updated at home. Racechip with Bluetooth support has this possibility in the racechip app.

Bluetooth Configuration
After many unsuccessful Bluetooth connection tries with phone and tablet with racechip, I managed to connect with my tablet.
Pre-configuration was set to efficiency (economy).
Selected Race.

Driving Test: Race Mode
1. My turbo boost sound was whistling like mad (high pitch) when accelerating (I have a small leak) which I did not hear match before the Racechip installation..
2. Torque feels much higher so does power and acceleration.

Does make a lot of difference. No DTCs. Worries: Engine compartment too hot for the racechip control unit. Needs casing / tray.

Nice! Did they finally send you the proper installation directions or did you just figure out how to install it? Regarding throttle lag, even though RC sell a unit to improve that, some reviews mention an improvement, so, did you notice any changes there? I’ve read mixed reviews and it’d be great to get your feedback on this.

Thanks!

:) I did not receive a response yet. I checked the plugs and only those 2 were compatible. :) I used the rule of thumb :).Only 3 possibilities and one was crossed out due to the size of connector. Then the 2 are different as well so one can not make a mistake.

I will have to do more tests on throttle lag. Will keep you informed.

Ah OK, so you've got a loose cable now? Looking forward to more feedback!

Where??? I don't think so. Everything was plug and play. The third connector is only for the GTS. My harness did not come with this connector so less connection points (2 instead of 3). My cables are all fixed. Note I got the racechip RS with Bluetooth not the GTS.

Maybe I did not understand the question.

I have selected the Efficiency mode and averaged 8.5l/km (70km driving), A/C on, and my norm average is 12l/km. Might have been other factors but 15% advertising fuel economy is possible. Will monitor this figure and will report when I do 1000km.

Nevermind, my eyes tricked me. That’s a proper gas saving!

BTW, just checked the US RC site and they’ve got an offer ending today, $100 off a GTS unit, it looks tempting! But not sure if justified the extra $$$.

Thanks again.
