Removing rear head restraints on 2014 Q5

<Sigh> I guess I was asking to be flamed. My PT knows a heck of a lot more than automotive engineers. Automotive engineers do not know about body dynamics, that is clear. You WILL hyperextend your neck with the current configuration in a crash. If it is reversed your neck will go straight back and be held in an upright position, which is far better than being hyperextended. And please do not condescend to me with your uninformed remarks.

Look at the headrest. If your body is thrown into it, your neck WILL hyperextend which would do more damage than if your neck was straight Period.

Excuse me but what you write is not true
For your information in planning the construction of the car is turned on more than 40 different professions and engineers.
Have you ever read a test car safety:

If you need details about the forces acting on the neck, legs, arms in a collision contact them directly
Watch the video
We suggest that Audi employ therapist
Good luck

Agree, it's strayed off topic. That said, I saw nothing condescending in NABS4's suggestions.
In summary, the rear headrests can be removed if desired be to accommodate a child's car seat, luggage, etc, but it requires some fiddling as described in spijun's reply to my original post. It can be done, however, without any fancy tool--it just requires something firm that can slipped under the plastic "cap" of the left pillar (when facing the seat) of the head restraint. And the seat release needs to be pulled so the seat can angle forward to allow the headrest to clear the roof.

there is no way on this planet you should turn around the head rest in any modern car, the oem's spend millions of dollars on crash testing, to say they dont know anything about how the body reacts to a crash is absurd. The guy that tunes the engine doesnt know anything about how the body reacts to a crash but here is an entire panel of people that audi employs to make sure the head rest does exactly what it is designed to do to protect the occupant. So for you PT to tell you to simply turn around the head rest without knowing exactly how the active headrest are designed on the particular car is not only wrong but dangerous in my opinion.
