Default Replacing Rear Footwell OEM Lights with Brighter LEDs

I am just finishing up installing the deAuto LED kit in my 2016 SQ5. The last two lights are the rear footwell lights. They are virtually impossible to see unless you a very short and have a very small head. Has anyone replaced these lights? If so, how did you go about removing them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I solved my own problem. I placed a small (6" diameter) mirror on the floor and a small LED light next to it to illuminate the underside of the seat. That allowed me to see what I was doing although using the mirror to work is a challenge. I now have a lot more respect for dentists who have to use mirrors and work in tight places!

They're hard to remove. I ended up breaking one, but luckily found a replacement on eBay.

For those lights, I found that using a small thin flathead worked best instead of the trim removal tools. It can dig in better to pry the light housing out for removal.

I just changed them this Saturday. I moved the front seats all the way up. Found the slit and pushed with the trim tool. You need to use a little force, but not too much. Also the wire is very tight so the clear plastic light housing don't come out much. I was able to use the flash light from my phone to shine on the plug area, then used trim tool to push in the electric plug to unlock the housing. The internal black plastic cover was dislodged when the clear plastic light housing was removed. I had to use phone flashlight to see how to remove the black plastic cover from the small housing cavity. This happened on both rear footwell lights.

All the lights took about 2 to 2.5 hours. I took my time and took breaks in between since this was the first time doing this. I also changed fog bulbs. Once you learn how to remove one the other is much easier. If I was to do this again it would probably take 30-60 minutes.

Hi Barry,

I also broke one last night, and still didn't take out successfully. Can you share your ebay product name or link that you purchase from?

Thanks for the great help!

The part number is on the light. I did a search on eBay for that part number. I think it was $7 shipped.
