Reading this post has made me remember my 2003 A4 Avant.I racked up 450k kms.on that machine. My headlights were Xenon, never touched them, lots of nighttime driving. The only bulbs I had to replace were the signal/brake rears which were incandescent.Every other source of illumination worked to the end, one exception, the license plate lights, they were a big issue but not due to bulbs, housing leaked and all the contact points rotted out due to corrosion. Fortunately parts were cheap.Pretty impressive.
My earlier non-german cars were constantly blowing bulbs, particularly interior/dash headlight etc. That's Japanese and N.A.products.

Checking my 7 (almost 8) years Audi service history, and particularly my light problems, the only thing I observed was the 1 Led light control unit 8R0907472B replacement (2016). Very expensive. Xenon bulbs were problem free during this period.

Having said this, I have ordered 8K0052110 OE license plate led kit (comes with housing and wiring) which later MY Q5s came with. Will also install 20 Watt led h11 cree fog lights for testing purposes, since I dont have a lot information on this.

I am a strong Audi supporter / enthusiast, because Audi is improving technology year by year, and older customers can benefit from this, though some research is needed.(We also have excellent retrofit options / support from different aftermarket companies e.g. Kufatec, Fiscon, K-electronic, not to mention these excellent forums , or even the german forums which I usually find more information on B8 firmware updates which also apply to Q5 - well up to now all did, and the excellent ERWIN database where I got 50% of my TPI / firmware update related information, though it was not a complete information database. I did not find the shudder problem with the new part no of steering hose, I did not find the instrument cluster update and did not find the gateway update, though I found all the rest, well except one due to blackout information i.e. torque vectoring).

Update: Was lazy and bought a ballast instead of swapping them. New ballast did not solve it. New HID "bulbs" did. Went with 5000K Kensuns. Hope they last.

If anyone needs a ballast PM me ($40 shipped).

I was quoted $250, bulb + labor, ended up buying a pair of Philips bulbs for $160 in Amazon and had my Indie replace both for $50.
