Should 4 tires be changed on Audi Q5 when I have a flat tire on one and can't be repaired but replace with a new tire.
It's a 2013 Audi Q5, with 40K miles on it. Currently has Michelin tires and am being said all 4 of them have to be replaced as it an AllWheel drive and the threads on other tires worn out and can't match with a new tire's thread that isn't good for the All-Wheel transmission.

Rule of thumb is 2/32 to 4/32 variation between tread depth depending an the awd system. You could try asking your dealer for the spec.but they're usually pretty thick when it comes to this kind of info.If you go for 3/32" you'll be fine.Audi's mechanical awd system is pretty robust. You worry more when you have a "clutched"system viscous or electronic like Subaru, Honda etc.

At 40K, something here tells me al your tires are getting pretty well worn anyway. In that case I would just bite bullet and get a new set.
If they really do have some life left , another option I have used is to find the identical tire with similar approximate tread wear on eBay. For somewhere in $100 range I can often keep a set going--with some decent tread left that is--for another season or so.

The main rule is that the axle pair should be the same. So if you chewed up the left front, you replace both front. And you might want to put the new tires on the REAR, since those usually wear faster.
At 40K miles, it could be time to do them all. Depends a lot on how old and used they are, how much tread is left, and if they are dried out with UV damage or not. (Partly a real point, often another new way to scare you into buying tires every 5 years.)
OEM tires? I'd think at 40k they're already pretty well worn.
Another option, IF the tires are good and you just need to match up that axle pair? A really pro tire shop can shave down the one new tire, so it matches the wear on the others. That's a waste of perfectly good rubber--but it can be a cheaper way to get a "matched" tire, without buying a used tire that may have unknown damage in it.

I have no direct experience, but I am pretty sure Tire Rack will sell you a new tire and shave it to match what you have left on the other 3 for cases like this. I thought cost was pretty reasonable too
I don't know if it's a good option for you, but maybe worth checking
