2018 Q5, when unlocking the car with the remote there isn't a sound. Is there a way when unlocking the car that it beeps?

Never saw a car make a sound when unlocking, only when locking. (my 2016 Q5). Also you posted the is the 2017 and under forum, your need 2018+ forum, you might get some better help there.

On the 2014, the "chirp" is enabled or disabled through the car setup menus. I have mine set to fold up the mirrors and NOT chirp, because I don't like hearing odd chirps at odd hours of the night, and I assume others don't either. I can see the mirrors move well enough. Offhand, I don't know which menu that is, but it is in there.

Oddly I find the chirp when mirrors fold to be a lot less then other cars.

If I'm not mistaken Germany has a restriction on the Db.level of alarms.Smart ! Fortunately I live in the country now but I lived in the city for a couple of years and wow is it ever annoying to hear people locking and unlocking their cars at 3 in the morning.

It *is* a discrete chirp. Even the alarm tone itself is quiet compared to the average US aftermarket alarm, but a number of German cars had discreet chirps (as opposed to blowing the main horn, etc.) for some years now. I suspect as Murray says, German law may have something to do with this.

On a quiet morning, I can be awakened by the beep-beep-beep as someone enters the entry/exit codes from their car or home alarm panel. Everyone hears them, some folks just don't wake to them. So, I figure why even bother to make more background noise when it just serves no purpose. Except perhaps to let blind drivers know they've set their alarms.(G)

Single / double chirps on lock / unlock can be enabled on a 2018 Q5 with OBDEleven (although the double chirp is a little funky).

My '14 SQ5 chirps, and the mirrors fold up, when I lock the car. Since it's a CPO, maybe the previous owner had it programmed that way.
