So what is the "actuator"?

I want more volume out of my TFSI so that's why I'm curious.
an actuator is a module similar to a throttle body for intake. When the gas pedal is pressed. it would flip open to allow more exhaust out to create additional "roar" to the exhaust.

something like this

I was under the impression the TFSI had a similar setup, but I do know it has butterflies in the pipes so your analysis may be accurate.
Here is a photo I took when I had my bumper off to install a hitch.

It shows the "actuator" which I had thought only contolled the valve flap directly beneath it in the exhaust tip (easily seen if you look inside the exhaust tip). Are there any active sound pulses coming from this thing as well? I'll have to inspect the exhaust pipe closer.

Looks quite different from the TDI version;

Pretty sure yours is just a flap, or at least the bit pictured is.

Do not trust what it says on the website audi.co.uk
There exists a lot of nonsense.

You are confusing this post with irrelevant information.

In this case the Audi UK site is correct in its description of the SQ5 TDI exhaust...

Interesting. That is definitely different. Now I have to figure out how to make my exhaust louder when valves are open, or at least modify to keep them open all the time. Why would I want them closed? It's not that loud anyway.

I believe the exhaust valves will be open all the time you're driving in S mode. I just wish we could set the car to start in S not in D. Steve

@Transfer:
That is the Actuator for "inside" Sound...

The TDI Exhaust has got one "another" actuator for each silencer.
