Sun roof liner detached

So I looked behind me about a week ago and noticed my sun roof liner had come off on one side, its sagging and you can see the adhesive where it came undone. Is it easy to put back in? I posted a pic below... Has this happened to anyone?

Yes. This recently happened to my S5. And although we owned a Q5 with the Pano roof and shade from 2009 to 2015, we never had an issue.

The screen snagged on one side and I attempted to straighten it out and it got worse. Forced it some more and tore an entire side off. Those flimsy metal roller glides will be near impossible to place back (somewhat like trying to put back any spring loaded device) unless you drop the entire headliner.

This has been my only issue with the car in four years and for that I'm grateful.

I chose NOT to take it in for service, ( I still had a couple of weeks warranty) as I believed they would need to take the headliner off and therefore have my car for several days. Not even sure they would cover under warranty, so decided to secure it permanently.

I placed a long piece of styro foam, painted flat black to secure the now drooping shade and make it Taut. Never to be moved again. This works for me as the sunroof on the S5 only tilts and does not open fully as in the Q.

If however, you have warranty, you might want to try and get it repaired. Otherwise this could be lengthy labor and costly.

thanks for the reply, can the sun roof liner still open up with the styro foam in there?! Also, did you detach the front sun roof liner? Mine is dipping on the drivers side, for almost the entire length or the sun roof... Its not completely done for, I feel like with some tlc I could actually fix this, without taking out the headliner, and replacing the sun roof liner all together. Mine is in perfect condition, I can even still see the adhesive where it came fell off, it is about a centimeter thick little yellow strip along the edge. I was also thinking about using some fabric glue, to restick it on there somehow. Could you go step by step for the styro foam fix?

Thanks again!!

Also, did you glue in the styro foam? or is it just lodged in there?!

Get it fixed under warranty

This happened to me and it was a nightmare to fix. My warranty had ran out and if I remember correctly, it cost over $1800 to get it replaced and installed. If you're still under warranty I advice you run to your dealer.

The styro foam is forced/lodged tightly in there. The sunroof still tilts open but screen cannot be moved. The styro foam I used was an under the door sliding type with a nylon covering to keep drafts out. Sold in any big box hardware, weatherstripping aisle. If I were to remove mine, I'd just get the sunroof very dark tinted for a hundred bucks most.
