VW admits cheating on 3.0 V6 TDI diesel

Check this out

EPA: Volkswagen cheated emissions standards on 2009 to 2016 diesel vehicles

I bought my 2016 q5 tdi in Sept. Dealer is still dilli-dolling about taking the car back.

Was anyone able to return the car with full refund ? Any help in you return experience would be great.

SO over this car. At the point I just want it fixed so I can trade it in and never look at Audi ever again

We all knew this was coming. And I don't like the sounds of this "reflashing" idea either:

"Audi spokesman Brad Stertz said that the auxiliary emissions control software is legal in Europe, but that Audi did not "properly notify regulators" of the device.
"We are willing to take another crack at reprogramming to a degree that the regulators deem acceptable," Stertz said. The cost of reflashing the software is relatively minor, in the "double digits millions of euros," he added."

Loss of fuel economy? Loss of torque? How will we know if that has occurred or not? Personally, even if the difference is negligible I will be one piss** off customer!

So maybe TDI owners will now stop bragging about how amazing their engine are! :D

Sorry, I could not resist... :o

Schadenfreude is entirely inappropriate. Who knows what other (TFSI?) shoes will drop? Steve

My Q7, that I just bought on Halloween is looking less sexy now. But I still love it. We'll see how this pans out. I'm hoping for warranty extended to 100K, free audicare, and a kiss on all 4 of my cheeks.

I never lease cars and for some reason I leased my 2015 TDI. I feel like that was smart....

The article is somewhat confusing. First it says VAG has "admitted to installing "alternate exhaust control devices" in the vehicles, a violation of air-quality laws. Then it says it's an accusation. VAG had already admitted the device was installed in the 3.0TDI and claimed that it was legal but that they had failed to notify the EPA of the devices.. The only thing I see new here is it now extends back to 2009.

My understanding is that whatever tweaks that need to happen will result in a higher consumption of DEF being used by the Urea System to deal with NOx gases.

I do not think the fix will result in degraded engine performance unless the current Urea System is inadequate.

So, I really do not understand this 'sky is falling' reaction to this issue.
