Default What's the point of the plastic "emergency" key...?

I assume this is a common Audi thing, across multiple platforms.
What's the story with that key, and the associated fob that clicks into the glove box? I've read the instruction manual, so I understand what it DOES, but what is the PURPOSE?

If you lose your key for the car, this one will open the door and also once you stick it in the holder it will start the car as well.

If you don't have the push button start, how does one start the car?

Sure. I get that part. I guess, what I mean is it seems a little counterproductive, unless you keep that plastic piece on you, but separate from the normal key fob. Right?

That's the same on every model. There's the slot on the dash. Even the keyless model has to have the same slot, just in case the battery failed in the transmitter.

What Audi needs to do, and I'm surprised that MBZ beat them to the punch, is offer an iOS app to gain entrance to the car, or even find it in a parking lot. I mean, Audi Connect is easily better than the MBZ equivalent.

But if I lose my key, I have nothing to put into the slot in the dash.
I pull my trusty plastic key out, slip it in the glove box holder, then how would you start it?

The holder in the glovebox is removable - take it out and put it in the place in the dash
