Wheel lock key

I think McGuard started the whole "eccentric wheel locks" business something like 40-50 years ago. And I found out some 20 years ago that Snap-On and all the other tool companies sell a simple tool, that all the dealerships and tire shops use, to simply remove those special wheel locks when the key can't be found. Funny thing, car thieves use them too. So they will stop the unequipped joyrider, but not any real thief.
And there are some conventional tools that will very often work just as well.
My car came with a set of locks, and I tend toward the paranoid side of security (six break-ins, two or three partial theft aborts, one theft recovery, is that enough? Or should I count the family members who said "Gee, I parked here last night, I'm sure of it.") but this time I gave up. They're still in the factory package, somewhere under the load floor.
FWIW.

Wow I guess we're doing Ok up here in the great white north Redd, either that or you need to change neighborhoods - move out of Compton ?
I received my "mandatory" wheel lock set from Audi on delivery.Still in their original package - offers ? I told my dealer that if "these" were installed I wouldn't take delivery.
These things are pure evil and don't work for the reason you described, readily available removal tools.Just dumb ! Yes they might keep you safe from possible theft by the neighbor's 10 year old child, unless he's a quick learner....
When I owned my garage, wheel locks were a great source of anxiety for both customers and techs and ultimately profit for me.Evil I tell ya.

It wasn't the neighborhood (decent and middle class, no more no less) but rather the car had become a cult classic. And when cell phones dropped to a measly dollar a minute...the pro's driving tow trucks hired scouts, gave them lists of cars, and said "call in if you see one". Very much like "Gone in sixty seconds" except I eventually had it 'armed and armoured' to the point where that was more work than most.(G)
Here they use tow trucks. I've seen photos, I think from the Azores, where they just use a small crane truck. Two web straps under the car, up and over the boom goes, bye bye.
But having door locks that basically allow anyone to unlock the car, and then vehemently denying that defect to the customers....Well, you know between the cost of aviation fuel, a good ground crew, and thousand pound ordinance, it hardly pays to adjust corporate attitudes these days. (How do you say in German, "Dude, wasn't our office here yesterday?" (G)
