Default RainX beading additive killed my sensor

Mine is a 2018 Q7.

I mixed rain x beading additive (~4 oz) with distilled water (almost 2 gallons!!) and a few days later it tells me washer fluid is low. The warning went away after another few days.

After a month or so it came back on again. I added the green version of rain x washer fluid and distilled water again (1:1). This time the washer fluid low warning just won't go away. I have less than 4K miles on the Q and I live in AZ. I'm taking it to service this week...

Good info. I'm having the same issue. I won't use rainX anymore. Thank you.

I picked up some Prestone 3-in-1 recently. This is newer, but I could not find any sufficiently negative reviews to suggest this product can cause failure in the same way the Rain-X product does.

It seems like the safest general rule is to avoid using any product that repels water. It is the beading effect that prevents the washer fluid from properly contacting the sensor, so it's hard to see how any product that repels water wouldn't degrade the effectiveness of the sensor (even if it doesn't immediately break it).
