You have to check oil level with engine running?
Hi all,
Just wanted to confirm:
1. There are no dipsticks on the 2.0T engine?
2. To check the oil level, you have to use the Q5 MMI, and the only way to do that is with the engine running? I tried to do it without, and I got a prompt that said "Must turn ignition on". Only thing I could do was push in the key, which started the car, and the oil display came on.
But I always knew that the engine should not be running when you check the oil, correct?

The engine should not be running...push the key without pressing the brake pedal
- Engine must be hot
- Hood needs to be open
- Car must be on level ground

If you open the hood and wait 30 seconds, then the system resets
It is better not to write about something you do not know but wrong to write !!
When the hood is open you get the information:

Oil is measured when the engine is running only for old automatic gearboxes

Guys, that's old news: you get a real-time reading when the hood is up You can pour in a few ounces of oil and watch the bar graph move up.

Can only when the lock mechanism of the hood is locked, such as service technicians work.
Maybe you know better than the Audi service technicians and engineers ??

I've not figured out any other way to access the dipstick without having the hood open You can buy a dipstick from your dealer or ESC Tuning.
I like to SEE, SMELL, and FEEL the oil. That MMI stuff is for the girls.

I like to have look at the oil once in a while myself so bought the dip-stick - there is no Q5 specific part # for it but based on recommendations elsewhere on this forum I bought the one for the A4 and it appears to work just fine - at least the level on the dipstick agrees with the MMI:-)
