Default 2018 Audi 2.0 Q5 vs. 2018 Porsche 2.0 Macan

Hi All, I test drove the above vehicles and am having a difficult time making a purchasing decision. Bottom line, I am looking to purchase and keep either car for many years. The Macan costs $10,000 more than the Q5 with similar options. I feel the Macan has better build quality and resale value, but the maintenance costs are astronomical. The Q5 felt more like a true premium luxury vehicle. Has anyone had the chance to drive both vehicles and can offer an opinion?

I highly recommend trying an X3 or X3 M40i. My SQ5 was a fantastic SUV that I miss sometimes, but the BMW feels more like a drivers car to me. Im going to write a rather large comparison between the X3 M40i and SQ5 soon which I hope will help people. Each one offers it's benefits but neither is perfect. Since you like the Macans feel, I recommend trying a BMW. It's not quite the same but closer to the Macan than a Q5.

If the BMW didn't look like such an old ladies car with its stodgy high profile...

(Just some balance in an Audi forum.)

Some certainly do, their styling has aggressive bits and the usual bland elements if every German car. My wife says the car looks ''angry" so that's better than boring I guess .

There’s also a certain stigma (deserved or not) that is most certainly attached to BMW (and Porsche) and not Audi for some reason. Of course that’s ridiculous, but its real. Who cares what other people think. It’s your money.

Yes, didn't you know turn signals are an expensive option on BMWs? It's a secret thing you have to custom order from a far away land once you ask the right people .

Do what I did and get yourself an Audi SQ5 for the price of a Macan 2.0. When comparing "apple to apples" as far as the features and engines, the Macan costs $10,000 more. I wanted a Porsche product to replace my aging 911 (which I ended up keeping). I drove the Macan and liked it. The Audi was just too much "bang for the buck" compared to the Macan. I also love the upgraded diamond stitched seats on the SQ5, be sure to get those because it takes the interior from "very nice" to "supercar" lux. I paid $53k for a 2018 SQ5 with under 1,800 miles. Daytona gray pearl, premium seats, Bang & Olufsen, Audi cockpit.

Keep in mind that the Porsche Macan has the same roots as the Audi Q5 and the VW Toureg. At the end of it, that extra $10k is mostly Porsche badging.

SQ5 is a lot better value for the money....

No, the Toureg is based on the Q7 platform which is also shared with the Urus and Cayenne.

Try the BMW too, you might be surprised, I was.
