Default 2019 Q5 Trailer Electric Brake controller

Hello,

Just bought my very first Audi! 2019 Q5 Prestige. My question is around towing. The car has the factory tow package from the port, however there is some apparent confusion all around regarding the correct configuration for towing with the vehicle. I have a ~2500lb popup RV trailer with electric brakes, and on my old tow vehicle I had added an electric brake controller to manage the braking for the trailer. I was using a Prodigy P2 EBC for the job, and this has worked great. I have asked two different Audi dealers and received two different answers when asking them whether I will need an EBC on the new vehicle:
Answer #1: No, the vehicle comes equipped from the factory with everything that is needed for towing, nothing additional required. I am therefore to assume that the 2019 Q5 has some sort of built-in EBC capability? This would be really cool, but I am skeptical.
Answer #2: Yes, you will need an EBC, however the one you have already from your old tow vehicle (Prodigy P2) likely won't work and you will need to purchase an Audi part.

So, to all the experienced Audi folks out there... which one is it? Do I need an EBC (assuming 'yes'), and if so, can I use the Prodigy P2 from my old car (hoping 'yes'). Also, given that neither of the dealerships I spoke to seem to be knowledgable on this topic, should I let them service the car, or should I take it somewhere else??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-Dan

Just wanted to share how to install trailer brake controller on 2019 Audi Q7. During the installation, there were some things I wanted to share about how the controller fits the factory pre-wire. Thanks for watching, hopefully it helps.

If I were adding an EBC to an Audi Q5 ‘18+, I would consider using this:

I am in the process of wiring my Audi Q5 and for brake control I plan to us this Curt RF controller. Seems like a good way to go.

These are the best trailer brake controllers, you can install it anywhere, its not a knee basher and it is very good: https://redarcelectronics.com//colle.../tow-pro-range

Those CurtRF controllers are garbage, you loose the capability to quickly actuate the trailer brakes to counteract sway and if you try to use your flashers it will actuate the trailer brakes because its not using a brake pedal signal.. just wire it up, your pre-wired for it, no reason for a silly wireless pos.

The Redarc is the gold standard, but they apparently don’t make a plug and play harness for Audi. Without that you’re cutting and splicing which can be scary on a new vehicle.

I have this same question, my popup is pretty big with a gross weight of 3250. I was just quoted $550 to install an EBC. I am just not sure I can get past towing with a 4 cylinder, does anyone have towing experience with their Q5's that could put me at ease?

If the maximum it can weigh is 3200lbs, and the tongue weight is under 440lbs it'll do fine.. ignore displacement, you got ~250hp and ~300tq, thats plenty of power.. I pulled 1500lbs with a 140hp 4cyl for ~40k miles and could pass priuses struggling to maintain speed at WOT going up to the Eisenhower Tunnel.. yeah it was a diesel but still.. it was not long ago most 8cyl pickup trucks had less power than your 4banger.

That little 4 cylinder has more horsepower and torque than many V8s just a few years ago. Max torque is reached at a low 1600 rpm. Don't worry about it.
