Apple CarPlay issue with 2018 Q5
#11
I’ve driven my car more since I posted in this thread and haven’t had any Car Play issues. Took delivery of my 2018 SQ5 on 1/2. Now, I haven’t had the pre sensor go off while CarPlay was on the screen but did have it go off while car play was connected but I was in the MMI screen. Also, no connections issues in general either.

I found that my CarPlay/Android Auto disconnection issues (not related to presense, as I've never had that issue) improved significantly when I ditched the crappy Audi curly cables.

That helped me as well, switched to one of Apple's cables. I still get periodic disconnections, but nothing like what I got w/ the Audi supplied cable.

CarPlay problems
I have the same issue. It has also caused the backup camera and navigation to not work. I have been to the dealer 4 times. It is actually with the dealer now. They initially told me it’s a software glitch. I talked with the service manager and he is having my Q5 looked at by an Audi Specialist who only comes to the dealer every few months. They said it could be 6 months before they rewrite the software. I have also had problems with the alarm system. This is extremely frustrating. Take your Q5 to the dealer and start documenting the issue.

It's the cable. I have had this problem with both android and apple in the past with multiple cars. Usually the neck of the cable that connects to the phone wears out and you can recreate the connect/disconnect issue by wiggling it.

When I'm using apple CarPlay and my pre sensors go off, CarPlay is turned off, and when I try to engage CarPlay again on my screen, it seems like it freezes. I always have to replug my phone and then I can use CarPlay. It's so frustrating, wondering if anyone else has this issue.
(1) Rear parking sensors activate while in traffic. If the car is in drive, why are the rear sensors active?
(2) Sometimes when a call comes in, it does not appear on the MMI screen. Or once call is answered, can not control from MMI - have to control (hang up) from wheel and VC.
(3) Posted this earlier: ticking sound coming from center console under shifter. Service tech confirmed this with other units. My loaner SQ5 had same issue. It's VERY noticeable.
(4) What is up with the auto windows?!?! I reset them according to manual and still, if I lower a bit, then try to raise, the window goes all the way down. Very inconvenient and annoying.
(5) Car auto unlocks all doors on park. I asked AOA if this could be changed by dealer, since I may park in some unsafe areas and want the doors to remain locked while in park. They answered no. Purchased an OBDEleven - I beg to differ. This is something that should be left to the user to control - should be an option in MMI.
(6) Posted this also - static cornering lights where the corresponding all weather light illuminates when turning. Does not work on my 2018 Prestige. My 2018 SQ5 loaner had them. Can't figure out how to program with OBDEleven. It's obviously a program issue - again, something that should be left to the user to turn on/off in MMI.

I have that issue as well, though haven't noticed it when pre-sense goes off. For me, I've noticed that when I have the phone plugged in, the problem is going into reverse gear. If I back up, the center display shows rear-view camera, and then going back to D, shows the front view camera briefly. Then it goes to the main menu (the somewhat circular one). The icon shows "CarPlay," but it won't go beyond that to show the Apple home screen with icons.
Try backing up while your phone is plugged in, and then back to driving and see if it's also the same problem you're having.
And yes, I have to unplug/plug the phone to clear it. Frustrating.

I found that if my CarPlay is not working, rather than physically disconnecting and reconnecting the phone, it would be easier and safer to go to "media" and then connection manager to reconnect there, CarPlay will work again. Still annoying you have to do that.
