I also noticed same issues with my new model 2018 Q5 Audi. This year audi switched from weight sensor to capacitance sensor for air bags. Placing a cushion on the front passenger seat for comfort keeps passenger air bag from activating and it remains in passenger air bag off lit position - big time safety issue if you dont check your dashboard lights all the time.. I followed a previous thread and purchased from Amazon a RFID Blocking, Cell Signal Blocking Nickel/Copper fabric. Just placing it on the front passenger seat without anyone sitting there keeps the front passenger air bag on light on. Whether someone or some object is on the seat doesnt matter as it will stay lit in on position
I hope this is not false security when someone sits on a cushion on the front passenger seat. However, I would not keep the fabric on the seat all the time as the bag will probably deploy even with no one sitting.
