Default Free Remote Start

My recent SQ5 lease included the installation of a free remote start (needs add'l key fob). Any thoughts about whether to get it installed or not? As a non OEM item, should I be concerned about problems with SQ5's software, warranty, etc.?

If the dealer is installing it, I would not worry about it.

IMO, Yes, I wished my dealer would have done that. A new key fob and programming would be aprox $400 CAD. Add the remote start $250-$300 + installation and it is a good value. The battery on the key fob is removed so low risk of it being compromised. Remote starts for the Q5 are all T-harnessed in rather than hardwired. That way it would be less invasive should you wish to remove it yourself. One good thing to ask the dealer/installer is what system they are using (T-harness/ hardwired, idatastart, compustart...etc) and research reviews/info.

Good tip. Will ask about the remote start system manufacturer. Are there many out there?

The ones here that I have read about are the idatastart (HC2352AC or HC3452AC), which is a bundle of Bypass and Keyfob/Starter kit in one. T-harness is not included. Another one that I read about is the compustar 'Start it' by pass module but you buy a keyfob kit separately. There are others, which I have not really researched much on like the Fortin bypass modules. All of these require a Key Sacrifice.

I cannot say which ones are better at this point as I don't have one yet. Although, I am leaning towards the idatastart. The T-harness(THR-AU2 btw) is on back order by the manufacture.

https://www.12volt.solutions/

This one comes with the harness but just like the others you need to give up a key fob.
