Default Heater Seat Memory

Is there a setting in the 2018 Q5 that remembers the seat heater setting at the time of exiting the vehical? The driver side seems to remember when the seat heaters and steering wheel are on however the passenger side seems to be random. My wife has mentioned a few times that seat heaters in the passenger seat either remain on or have turned off and I was wondering if there was a way for the passenger seats to also remember the last setting at the time of turning the vehical off.

Our 2011 Q5 seat heaters stay where they are set. Our 2016 A3 seat heaters work as you describe. Drivers side always remembers and the key has the info. Passengers goes to off unless it is only a short stop. There may be a setting that VCDS can change.

I am not quite sure that this is "random". In my '18 SQ5, it works pretty much 100% of the time that the driver's side retains the seat heaters, whilst the passenger side does not. That is, if this was how it was designed, which I presume it is, then it works properly for me. Same with the second row heated seats.

To be frank, I like that design, as I don't need those passenger and second row heaters on all of the time, and I don't want to have to remember to shut them off. My wife and kids only ride with me intermittently, so I'd prefer that the default be "off" on a restart, as opposed to "on".

I prefer it this way as well. I never realized it was auto off, and have been a nag at making sure they're off before leaving the car. In my old car they were always left on. Nice touch I'll have to check it out.

You need to turn on the heat seater (steering wheel if you'd like as well), and then save the driver settings (when you save the seat position). It will then be automatically on the next time as well (driver's for sure, maybe passenger resets if nobody was sitting in there when it turned on?).

Makes sense for the passenger side to turn off (as mine does too). You may not have a passenger, and then why have it "on."

That's exactly what I was thinking as well.
Same with the rear seats. I'm paranoid that my kids are going to leave the rear seats on and cranked to the max so I hope they reset every time you start the vehicle.

I'm not seeing the passenger seat heaters reset to off across ignition/lock cycles. They persist with the last setting. I was testing my two keys today to verify what's stored. The expected things like seat & mirror memory, lighting colors, and AC settings were tied to the key. Settings for the passenger and rear seat heaters stuck with whatever was the last setting and definitely didn't turn off automatically.

I also tried opening and closing the passenger doors after shutting off the ignition then locking all doors before coming back and unlocking. The passenger seat heaters still stayed on.
