Default Mileage gauge: real or fake?

I was driving and noticed the gauge was showing this number that i have never seen before. How close are these numbers to real mileage? I am not sure if i trust this.

Which number are you questioning? There’s a couple on your VC.

sorry meant to ask the mpg number. It was 36 before i took pic. Seems too high to be true.

If you were going downhill or you were off the gas, then it's true!

That figure is 100% accurate. The ECU knows precisely how much fuel is metered though each injector and your exact speed with GPS. It's just math.... People that disagree with these numbers think they can fill a tank 100% exactly the same each time and calculate their MPG on paper.... these fuel computers are know exactly what you get and are bang-on, no mater what other people say.

Watch the gauge when you floor it from a stop. MPG will go down to 5-7mpg. It’s the average of ALL of your driving habits and conditions that matter.

Do you have a Q5? I had a co-worker that had one it and she was getting around 33-34MPG which is inline with what you are getting.

I've gotten my gauge to read over 100 mpg lol. I was coming back from the local ski resort. I got 34 mpg going in to work today. But 28 mpg coming home. Elevation change makes a big difference as does how you drive it. YMMV

Oh, and the gauge is usually 1 - 1.5 mpg too optimistic.

You've got to move some place with no traffic. That's the secret.
