Paint coatings-worth it?
I am considering getting my Q5 hood done with suntek coating at a cost of $550. I have a couple of questions for anyone who has had experience with them:
1) Do they work well? Are they worth it?
2) Is Suntek a good product?
3) Does a coating have any negative impact on the paint if you decide to remove it?
4) Are there any downsides?
5) Would you do anything in addition to the hood?
6) Are there any questions you would ask the installer?
Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated!

Is this a coating or paint protection film?

AFAIK Suntek makes films, not coatings, but Suntek is a major (and respected) brand that many installers here use. Do you already have this on your bumper? Generally if you're going to do film, you do the front bumper and part of the front hood. I can say from experience this stuff works extremely well if you're in an area that is punishing on the front of vehicles it can help keep the front of your vehicle looking nice. A quality film, like suntek, has nearly no down sides other than cost and appearance. Some people hate the look and others prefer less rock chips. Depends on your needs.

My car has a full XPEL film on the front. It covers the hood, front fenders, bumper, headlights and A pillars. Unfortunately parts have started to come up as of lately. I've been in contact with XPEL to get it fixed. I wouldn't want a car without some protection, especially the front. I don't have a costing like CQuartz, although I might get one in the future.

Hi,
I had Suntek clear bra added to my car the week after I picked mine up. Write up is here with pictures: My Audi
I certainly recommend it. Your cost seems a bit low unless its just for a partial front. I think the majority would suggest to pay the extra and do a full hood/front clear bra protection. I went a step beyond and also got the Ceramic Clear Coat as well.
Some other advice, my experience has taught me to ask for clear-bra on the A-Pillars and strip above the Front windshield. Typically when you are driving these are the areas that can get blasted by those pebbles from a Semi-Truck on the freeway in front of you.

Coating and/or PPF on your vehicle is really dependent on two things:
How long are you going to own this car?
How **** retentive are you about washing and/or minor damage?
And a third consideration: How much are you willing to spend to get the job done right?
