Default Only 8k miles and Low Oil Alert!!!

After putting gas in today, I got a Low Oil Warning with the yellow oil can symbol. Brand new 2018 Q5 PP with just over 8k miles. Said to add oil, but no more than 1 quart, so I did! Funny, nowhere in the manual did it say what kind of oil, so I called the 800 number on the sticker under the hood and they told me 5-w 30 full synthetic. Anyone else’s have the low oil warning with this low mileage? Is is normal? Should I get an oil change now, or wait for the recommended interval? Thanks for info.

Ours will use a few ounces between oil changes, but never enough to get the warning light. It seems to use less after the first oil change.
Contact your dealer to get it on record. One quart on 8K is probably going to be considered 'normal'.

By the time our SW5 hit the year oil change (13000 km / 8000 miles) the oil level indicator was somewhere in the 1/8 to 1/4. Up to the first oil change any engine will consume more oil as it breaks in.

Dealer will tell you that your experience is normal, and I wouldn't considering 8000 miles as low mileage for requiring a quart of oil. It used to be that oil was changed at 3000 miles and engines consumed ~1/2 quart. You are 3x that change interval right now.

I am at 87k miles on my TDI and it does not burn any oil between changes. I sometimes wonder if the gauge is broken.

I had the opposite problem...2018 SQ5 told me to "reduce oil level" at 4000 mile. Still has the factory oil in it. Went away after 1 day so I'm not going to worry about it. I will mention it to the dealer when she goes in for her first oil change.

i did my 1st oil change at 7.5K and now at 12K, i am 1/4 mark down from full. the dip started around 10K or so. interestingly, before the oil change, there wasn't any dip at all.....wondering if the dealer vw 5w40 oil is lower viscosity

i got the same message with only a few hundred miles on car. I’ve heard a few people mentioning the problem. Recommendation was to remove filler cap and put it back on. I did that, but it solved the problem for a few days, and light came back on. Dealer is checking to see if there are any tech bulletins.

So so that makes a mystery oil level to high warning. A hatch that opens by itself for no reason. And an A/C that shuts off when I lower the fan speed. I guess it’s better than having a BMW that mows down pedestrians because it can’t stop in time when one steps out.

Hatch has a recall for the software. There was a thread about the A/C turning off when you play with fan speeds/modes (software bug in that).
