Default Rotate tires or not?

I'm taking the Q5 in for it's 10,000 mile/1 year oil change/minor check up. I'm on the fence about rotating the wheels. On my previous 2011 Q5 I never rotated and got about 45,000 off the originals tires and never had a wheel go out of balance. I currently have about 7,500 miles on my 20" wheels. I think the total cost is about $75 for rotating and balancing each wheel. What do you guys think?

75 is obsurd for a rotation, but yes I would do it. Just not at the dealership. Dealer by me charges 45. Still high but not crazy I suppose

If all are balanced now with no vibration there is no need to balance. Just rotate. I do mine myself but typically only rotate front to rear once about halfway thru the life of the tires.

I was surprised to find that AudiCare doesn't cover rotation. As an add on, dealer charged $30 for it. And yes to J. Patterson - if no vibration, then just the rotation.

I just dropped off the Q5 and decided not to balance only rotate. Cost is $30 to rotate only and move back to front. Thanks all for your advice.

Just wanted to add to the discussion a bit since I rotate my own tires - depending on your equipment and the type of driving you do, you can also rotate left to right - but only if your tires are non-directional, meaning that they can rotate either way. Directional tires will always have an arrow on the sidewall indicating direction of rotation - if you don't have the arrow you can also rotate left to right which can be beneficial if you drive a lot on crowned backroads, the right tires will wear the outside corners more quickly than on the left side.

I just had the 20,000 mile service on my 2018 Q5 and the Service Advisor said that Audi does not recommend rotating the tires.

They do check the tread depth and mine were consistent all around.

That is correct. They made that change 2 or 3 years back. Even so, I will always rotate mine front to rear and rear to front at least once during their life. They will last longer by doing so and spreading the wear. Edges of tires on the front wear more quickly. Front tires carry a heavier load and do most of your braking.
