Im really not sure why the dealer had such a tough timing getting this done for you. We have done a handful of them here, and as far as i can see(from my desk watching the techs do it) its 95% the same process. And everything you need comes with it other than the stuff to code it.

If your going to spend the money to do it, i would just bite the bullet and get it towed. You never know, someday you may need a trailer.

Checked inventory at port back in mid March when I was selling my 2016 S5 back to the dealer and ordering the 2018 Q5. Only one at port had the port installed hitch. Took delivery April 11th. The hitch was listed on the sticker for about/approx $850. Tried to have dealer install hitch on previously owned Audi vehicles and it was always cost prohibitive.

In regards to the coding. Is there in fact coding that happens when a hitch is installed by Audi? If so, how exactly does this work? is there a setting in the system to activate. Or is it automatic when something is plugged in?
From a DIY a perspective I had not considered coding that may be required. I'm imagining now that with the hitch and say a Kuat NV 2.0 bike rack back up sensors and proximity sensors would be going haywire the entire time.

One Audi employee told me the hands free tailgate sensor was probably being interfered with by the addition of the trailer hitch. There are three Q7 or Q5 Audis in my neighborhood. All with hitches and the hands free tailgate doesn't work on any of them. I know, I'll get posts saying it doesn't interfer. But, we've done more foot moves than you see on Dancing With the Stars and watched the Audi video. Failure and failure.
