12v socket keeps shorting

Hi everyone,

Recently the 12v socket to the right of the shifting knob keeps shorting and blows the fuse after I plug my usb charger in. The charger itself has no problem because it works OK on both backseat 12v sockets. Has anyone had similar issues? I would appreciate any suggestions to diagnose since I don't wanna run back and forth to the dealership...

did you try looking into the socket with a flashlight to see if a piece of metal is dislodged causing it to short to ground when someone is inserted into it?

Yeah that's exactly the problem! The metal ring top of my usb charger fell off and got stuck in between the side and bottom which is causing the short. I didn't notice that initially until I take a look at other sockets because the metal ring looks like part of the socket lol.

cool. yeah that is exactly what it sounded like was happening. basically that is the only way you can get a result like you described is having some piece of metal in there lol
