2009 Q7 brake light bulb replacement
Was driving the other day and the "left side brake light" warning came on, a few seconds later the "left rear light" warning came on. The owners manual states that I should not change the bulbs myself and doesn't offer any specifics on what kind of bulb or bulbs I would need. I don't live near an Audi dealership and the only certified Audi mechanics I can find are closed before I get out of work. So I am going to change the bulb myself, but I don't know what kind of bulb I need. Is the brake /rear light the same thing, hence both warnings at the same time? Or do I need two separate bulbs? Do I need a specific bulb? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing special about the bulbs that require any sort of dealership involvement. Just a standard 1156/7506 bulb behind the tailgate access panel.
When you swap out your bulb, check the contacts for the socket, they tend to corrode and create poor connections when they get old, and the wiring harnesses will eventually need to be swapped out. Do a search on this forum and you'll see that it's a common issue with the older non-LED tailights. If you find that you are burning through taillight bulbs more often, and the solder on the bottom of the bulb is getting melted, this is a good indicator that the harness needs to get replaced, which requires removal of the inner tailgate trim panel, and I recommend that you just swap both harnesses (drivers and passengers) at the same time since it is a pain to take off the panel, and the harnesses are cheap and usually wear out around the same time.
