Did your q7 come with the hitch already installed or did you install it yourself? I have done the programming but some of the steps on the ross-tech site doesnt seem to apply.
LOL!! Yes, the battery location is less than desirable.

The 4.2 was a full factory tow package. The 3.6 I had to add it. Thus, the 4.2 is rated at 6700lbs and the 3.6 is rated at 5500lbs. If it had been a factory tow, it would have had an extra/larger oil coolers and carried a 6700lb rating from what I have gathered (3.6 Premium with tow, base level would have still been rated at 5500lbs). Either way, if I needed to pull my parents horse trailer (2-horse slant load, all aluminum) either of my Q7's will do it. I also added a brake controller to the 4.2, which works great with my enclosed car trailer.

Mine is a 2013 3.0T, how do I know if it has the same parts as if it came with the hitch already installed?

During my research into adding a hitch, I found out the tow package does not increase the oil or trans cooler size. The only part numbers that were added were for larger cooling fans. Same radiator and coolers.

So to get the higher tow rating you would need the larger fans and the shroud.

Here is what I had listed in my notes for my 2011 TDI

Radiator Shroud - 7L0121207E
Right Fan 600w - 7L0959455E

The left fan was the same.

Didnt figure those parts would be that much! Maybe if I can find a good deal on a used part I might upgrade mine. Dont think it would be worth it for me tho, doubt I ever pull anything over 4000 pounds.

TDI and V8 models had bigger radiators and such from the get go from what I've found. I don't know about the 3.0T. 3.6 did not, as far as I know.

I hate to bump an old thread, but I can not for the life of me figure out where the small 2 pin connector is supposed to plug in. The tutorial mentions that it connects with its mate in the "spare tire" area, but I can not find a mate for this thing at all? Any ideas what I am overlooking?

nevermind, I was able to locate it. Near the ground cable, mixed in with the main cable group going along the back of the spare tire compartment.

Curious to know if you you have a wiring diagram for the Q5 brake controller wiring harness. Also I have removed the 4 screws fastening the drivers side dashboard panel to access the factory installed connector for trailer brakes. The panel still feels firmly attached below steering wheel. Are there pop out pins that I need to pry to remove? Do you pry down or straight back? I hate forcing this stuff for the fear of breaking expensive plastic
