Default 2012 Q7 Blower Motor issue, or is it?

I have a 2012 Q7 & the blower motor stopped working. I dropped the glove box and pulled the motor, but before I went any further, I plugged it back in and it started spinning for a couple seconds and then hard stopped. When I turned the ignition off and back on, I got the same thing. Spins for a couple seconds, & then a hard stop again. You think my blower motor is bad & the spike in power gets it moving, or could it be the Blower Motor Resistor/Regulator instead? Thanks for your input & help!

Quick update. While waiting for some input, I sprayed it with WD40 Hand spun the fan blades, then started the car. The fan is now working, but now the question is: Do you think the WD40 will last and keep it working, or since it's already pulled apart it's worth spending the $170 for a new motor before I put it back together?

Been there and tried this on a 2011. It didn't make it a month for me and it hard froze up. It was squeaking so I knew it was coming, but the lithium grease was supposed to give me time to replace it 'when I wanted to'... it laughed at me and went out on the unseasonably hottest weekend it could find WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN!
If it's squeaking go on and get ready to spend the money!

and you've jinxed me cause my 2015 started squeaking yesterday!!

Thanks for the advice & Sorry to jinx you, but if you hit your dash right above the glove box & the squeak should go away for a bit. LOL.

When ours went out on our 2011 we got to ride 400 miles home from Charleston SC in 100 degree weather with the windows open . Suggest you change it now. :-)

The blower motors tend to fail fairly often on these cars. Mine failed a few months after we bought it used from a dealership with about 43k miles on it. It wasn't an Audi dealership and I didn't feel like driving an hour and a half to fight with the service department to get it replaced. Fortunately it's a fairly simple job to swap it out, especially if you remove the glove box.

FYI - you can buy the blower on Amazon for about $74. I think the dealerships charge around $300, give or take. I've seen them as low as $55 on ebay for new ones. Check the part number for your specific motor first.

WD40 is not a lubricant. let that sink in and everyone reading it. so no WD40 will not last.
I'de get the part number and try to cross reference it to something cheaper. I'de also rip open the motor and see what is going on.
Usually the bearings are shot and just need to be replaced. and no that is not easy to do if you start from no knowledge at all.
if you can find what actually needs to be lubed spray or lube it with an actual lubricant spray. but still if the bearings are shot its not going to last anyway.
shot bearings cause heat, heat causes lubricant to flow away or burn off. along with wearing causing them to be even more loose etc etc

Hey guys, mine started making a crazy sound the other night after switching on defroster!
I videoed it but it is hard to tell.
I posted on FB, as I had easy access to the group. I was told it is the blower and it will need changing.
After fiddling a bit, I managed to stop the noise (howling sound).
It has not made it since.
Could it just have something to do with defrost? As I don't use it much.

I cannot seem to upload video here.
Maybe try this link?

Maybe try this link? Defrost fan sound
UPDATE: Yes, the blower motor quit completely on our trip over the holidays. Happy New Year!
Last 200 miles without fan, without A/C, because of course it would be 72 degrees through Kentucky and Tennessee the last day of December!
Going to change spray it, but need to change it out.

Could someone please give me a correct part number for fan? I will call the dealership if not.
I cannot imagine a difference in them, but are all Q7 years utilizing the same fan motor and housing? Mine is 2015
Or is there a difference between facelift models?
2 or 4 Zone Climate control? Mine has 4 Zone.
TDI vs TFSI?
There are so many different part numbers out there, many of amazon and ebay claim direct fit, does anyone have a confirmed fan purchased from either source? Or a link.
