2013 Q7 diesel Crank Pulley Failure at 47,000 miles

Looks like corrosion played an issue helping the rubber separate from the hub.

2012 Q7 TDI; Mine failed at just over 54,000...

Just got home after a trip from Ohio to Tennesee and mine failed as I went to move my Q7 after unpacking it from the trip; it started and as I turned into the driveway, the power steering stopped working and when I looked under the hood, I saw the belt loose and the pulley broken just like your is in your photos. It looks like you tackled it yourself; how much time did it take you to get it fixed? I have a post-TDi fix visit for warranty work with the local Audi dealer scheduled for an emissions error code just 83 miles after the fix was applied (NOx sensor errors) and was told there is a TSB and redesigned pulley being spec'ed and am hoping they'll cover the pulley failure too...

Does anyone have the torque value for the 8 bolts that hold on the crank pulley?

Were you guys able to get it covered through warranty? The same just happened with my q7 tdi 2014 only while I was driving. Pulley snapped right off. Problem is most likely due to corrosion

Car at 89,000km so out of warranty period - took it to the dealer and hoping they will fix such a disaster for free

any thoughts ? Could something else have been damages too?

This is a problem with the BMW diesels as well, the vibration dampener takes the engines torque abuse and ends up failing. The fix for BMW so far looks like throwing on an 'aftermarket' clutched alternator pully along with either a replacement dampener or Fluidampr redesigned (solid, viscus fluid filled) part, that helps in keeping down the strain that the rubber ends up deteriorating from.

Audi, seems to have a corrosion problem on their's as well, that's not seen on the BMW's though. (Mine is rusted out just like yours)

Same crankshaft pulley failure on our 2012 Q7 TDI 45k miles yesterday, on the highway outside DC. Super fun doing that at 70mph 150 miles from home. Any news on whether its under the tdi warranty by chance or if there's anything we need to know getting it fixed? We had to leave it at a dealer down there to be fixed.

I replaced mine last week after seeing your guys failures and mine looking corroded like yours. It was about $400 for the part and install (done at Audi, while having some emissions warranty work done).

It’s not covered by the TDI warranty, since it’s in no way emissions related. Just terrible parts design. Make sure you have them order the part and bolts from New Orleans Audi and have them price match (or order it yourself and have them install it).

It’s an investment worth the peace of mind, especially if you road trip!
