2014 8 speed Tiptronic Issue - am I being ripped off?
Hi folks, I’ve got a 2014 3.0 TDi S Line Plus model, with the 8 speed tiptronic box.
in the last week, the car started revving between pretty much every gear change, and when accelerating, would jolt forward after the gear would “bite”. It would also jolt a little every few second when sitting stationary. Sometimes it would even stick in certain gears (6th was particularly fun when trying to pull out at a junction), not even allowing me to manually change gears. Start stop function also stopped working.
Had it in at an Audi franchise dealer today, and after diagnostics and checks (£60) was told they are pretty certain there is a leak with one of the gearbox oil cooling lines. To fully identify which one, they would need to put 3 litres of gearbox oil in, and then drive it to get the oil cooling lines activated so they could fully identify which one is at fault. They wanted to charge me £115 per hour (plus vat) of labour for the privelage, and that’s before they even replaced or fixed anything!
Ive told them, nearly £400 to fully diagnose a fault, is absolutely scandalous, and planning on taking the car to an independent specialist to have it looked at/fixed.
Got a few questions for you:
1. Are they trying to completely rip me off? Is this standard Audi fault finding?
2. Does this sound like what could be causing the fault?
3. Is 3 litres of gearbox oil really £115?
Any help hugely appreciated!

Audis are can be very expensive to correct at the main dealer when things go wrong, Sean.
Yes, the fluid is very £££.
If the main dealer has determined the fluid is low, the next step is to determine why.
The 8 spd gearbox is very good, FWIW.
