Default Draining Oil

Hey guys (and gals),

How do I drain the oil without making a mess? There are cross members directly below the drain plug...

Agreed. I’ve never been under a Mk2 Q7. “Crossmember blocking the drain” That is not cool. But then, neither is the oil filter located behind the intercooler crosspipe on a Mk1 TT. I’ve done that many many times. ( and it is always messy.)

I know it suck having the crossmember blocking the drain plug. On mine, I used a wide open oil pan, which I bought for 3 bucks. I did loose the drain plug little by little to prevent a high oil splash and spill. In the end it was a clean oil change except for the crossmember.

The tightening rotation of the filter cap is inscribed on the cap as well as torque applied!!!!
