Default **Update: 2015 Q7 Blower Motor replacement

Originally Posted in 2012 Q7 Blower Motor by jbgilbank Hey guys, mine started making a crazy sound the other night after switching on defroster!
I videoed it but it is hard to tell.
I posted on FB, as I had easy access to the group. I was told it is the blower and it will need changing.
After fiddling a bit, I managed to stop the noise (howling sound).
It has not made it since.
Could it just have something to do with defrost? As I don't use it much.

I cannot seem to upload video here.
Maybe try this link?

UPDATE: Part ordered I need a 5.5 mm socket? Really? I never even heard of one! Bad enough I have to have Standard (American) & Metric, but now half sizes? Need one of these I guess.
Yes, the blower motor quit completely on our trip over the holidays. Happy New Year!
Last 200 miles without fan, without A/C, because of course it would be 72 degrees through Kentucky and Tennessee the last day of December!
Going to change spray it, but need to change it out.

Could someone please help me?
I called the Asheville Audi parts and got part# 4L1820021B, $400.
Audi Charleston quoted $362.25 for the same part! WTH? Other Audi dealers sell online for a number of different prices.
I am finding 4L1820021Q everywhere I look, will this fit mine? Audi parts claims Q at the end is not a good part number at all.
I cannot imagine a difference 2006 and 2015, but apparently they are VIN specific? Mine is 2015
Are any of these "off brands" any good?
Or is there a difference between facelift models?
2 or 4 Zone Climate control? Mine has 4 Zone.
TDI vs TFSI?
There are so many different part numbers out there, many of amazon and ebay claim direct fit, does anyone have a confirmed fan purchased from either source? Or a link.

UPDATE FIXED: Ordered part through Amazon -
Blower Fan Blower Fan

Inspection of new part, passed/matched

Changed out and made video of process, but it is not good, kinda.
Here is the amount of time taken.

It actually took about another minute or so, before I remembered to start the timer.

I will try to get a video of running new fan.

Super easy and straight forward.

Steps taken:
Remove panel (pull down and pop out)
unplug light
unplug fan
remove clip attached to fan housing
remove 7 screws 7/32" US SAE (the 2 closest to side kick panel are a little tricky with wiring harnesses blocking view of screws, but nowhere super challenging)
remove fan

Reverse order to install

Check here for the correct part number for your model and year:

Audi Parts Catalog

Check ebay once you have the part number. I saw both of the parts you mentioned for as low as $45 with free shipping. I bought one on ebay for my 2014 Q7 and it works fine.

You could also pull the blower and check the part number on it to make sure you get the right one. You will need a 5.5 mm socket to swap it out. A socket driver or a long extension is needed to reach up to access the screws. The job can be done with the glove box in place, but it's much easier to replace the blower if you remove the glove box as you can see most of the screws from the glove box opening. Otherwise you'll have to lay on the floor and look up to get to the screws. There are cables on the right side of the blower that you need to work around. It's a little tight on that side to get at the screw, but not impossible. I think the total time to swap out mine took about 40 minutes.

Doing a little quick math, 5.5 mm = 0.21654 inches, and 7/32 = 0.21875 inches. Worth a try, especially with a 6-point socket.

Right around 10 minutes (see above) to change out and working great!
Just in time for A/C tomorrow, as the temp is supposed to clear 60 F.
