I know that the AMI retrofit is still not available for the Q7. Has anybody looked into both systems? If so, does one of these systems function better than the other? With thr Gateway 500, is it possible to see the folders on the iPod and to choose music via the MMI wheel or the steering wheel buttons. I know that the Gateway 500 is capable of sending video out to an external screen (which I believe is not possible with the AMI). Also, with the Gateway 500, it is possible to play music (and videos?) from a USB source (such as a USB stick or a USB hard drive). I beleive that I read somewhere that in future upgrades the AMI will also be able to play music from a USB device, but that that is not possible today. The only two options are playing music from an iPod or an audio jack. Also, I know that the AMI retrofit will be placed in the center console (where it uses up the entire bottom storage compartment. Where did thos people who installed the Gateway 500 have it installed? Any suggestions and insight would be appreciated.

It goes behind the glove box, so there is no space lost and an ipod cable is left inside the glove box. I haven't been able to connect my Ipod yet as the car is at my other house and I forgot the ipod (I know). The instructions say you get full menu control of the ipod. It replicates a CD changer with CD1 as playlist 1 etc and CD6 a menu for settings in exactly the same way as the icelink plus worked with earlier systems. You can connect any other type of player or USB source, but tell your fitter to leave access to the small junction box for connection (this may then take up room in your glove box).
