BOSE Amplifier dead - Replace or Repair?
#11
Thanks. The dealership has stepped up to replace. I did call AoA before bringing it to the dealer. They told me to keep them in touch if I had problems with dealer. Dealer told me not to call AoA as they have discussed my situation with them. The dealership service dept warrantys for 1 yr/12K miles. So I should call AoA after they install and discuss that they (AoA) put in writing to warranty me for addtl 3 yrs/100K on the S/R and any consequential water damage from the new installation?

Hello,
So my Q7 '07 premium - BOSE Amplifier is dead (cost me $350 for the shop to figure it out).
I suspect water damage from a leak. The mechanic mentioned trace of liquid, and many post on the same issue talk about water damage from the sunroof or the rear windshield water pipe.
But I would like to know your advice if it worth trying to have the BOSE Amplifier repaired by a local electronics repair shop (a few people advertise locally their services to repair amplifiers)?
If not, trying to find a second hand amplifier (part #4L0035223A). Any suggestions on where to find this on the internet? I tried googling the part # and found only one site in Sweden having one in stock for $400. I would prefer find stock in Canada or US first! Any suggestion of site selling used parts?
Last, buying a new one - full price $1,100+
Suggestion and advices welcome!

my bose amp damaged by sunroof drain hose leak, the result is mute and sound keys cannot be operated normally. I fixed it by self sucessfully.
in my case some pcb wires, vias, and component termnials oxided, and the connection becomes bad.
you may need a magnitude scope to check the PCB, find-out the bad connection.
easpecally the area near fiber connector. I replaced a 10uf/16V cap and a 4.7K ohm pukk-up resistor in the area, then it works again.

BOSE AMP
My story: U$200 from the dealer to diagnose the issue with the AMP. He just needed to hook up the computer to the car - this is ridiculous. He handed me over a proposal to have it fixed: U$ 1'400 for a new piece + U$ 700 to install and configure it, at a total of U$ 2'100 + U$ 200 for the diagnosis = U$ 2'300. Beautiful! I searched on-line and bought a new piece for U$800. Installed it myself, telephone, radio, all was back however music would only play on the left top front speaker :-( Back to the dealer... another U$200 to hook up my car through his computer to the German factory where it has been built in order to pair my MMI to the new AMP. Bottom line I paid: U$ 200 + U$ 700 + U$ 200 = U$ 1'100 to have it all fixed. Unbelievable. I am sending my old amp to BOSE for a free diagnosis of what caused the problem in the first place. Will keep you posted.

I did the rear drains on my ex 2007 4.2 myself. Paid for the front ones since they were leaking. It took me around 2.5 hrs to do the retrofit. Its not that hard and parts cost me 65.00. If you want some pics please send me an email. I ususally have a hard time posting pics here.
Take care,
Alex
