So I looked at the wiring on the sub and here's what I found: The original sub is a dual voice coil sub with 2 ohm voice coils wired parallel at 1 ohms. The wires to the sub: 1= negative to sub, 2= positive to sub. Now the other wires appears to be from the sub as I found a 220 microfarad 50v capacitor inline for a passive high pass crossover: 3= Negative, 4= Positive. My car does not have 3 and 4 connected so I'm not sure where they go on your car.
As far as what connects to the jbl sub will be wires 1(-) and 2(+).
Listen to all your speakers and then disconnect your sub and see if you lose any other speakers too, like your tweeters.

Just find the pair that blips the sub with a 9v battery connect only that pair to the JBL. Put balance full left and see if sub works. Do the same full right if sub works. If it does you are fine, no need to worry about the second pair.
Only reason to worry about the second pair is if your mid range door speakers stop working. I suppose it's possible tweeters could also be on that circuit but that cross over would be around 200hz and that's a little low for a tweeter if it is really a high pass.

Yes it is meant for audio but without a wiring diagram no one can tell you if you need it or what it is for. It could very well be a DVC Bose sub that is being bridged off the harness. That has no consequence to your JBL.
Just find two wires that make your sub blip when tapped to a 9v and hook those to the JBL. Set balance to Left and Right and if the JBL works on both the JBL work is done. The only reason you would need to trouble shoot further is if turns out the sub only works on either left or right and not both (this would indicate the pairs are for stereo which is unlikely).
The other reason you would need to troubleshoot further is if any of your other speakers stopped working which would suggest those speakers are being ran in series off the sub for matching impendance but that seems super unlikely for a couple reasons. Don't over think it. It will take you 15 minutes to figure out if your install is good and it likely will be.
