Default Coolant temp sensor location

Does anyone know where the coolant temp sensor is located on the 2011 q7 tdi? I've searched to no avail. I'm getting screwy readings on my temp guage but no check engine light and blowing hot air from the vents.

I know this is an old thread. But looking for actual part numbers for both of these. I'm getting some wonky coolant things going on and have codes for both the sensors. Hoping to get the part numbers for them before pulling them. Thanks.

Hey jbain,
It's always advisable to state what type of engine you have.. I have the 3.0 Tdi CASA V6, and both the front lower and the rear upper have the same PN 06A 919 501A..note that it's the rear coolant sensor located close to the turbo is the one that actually sends the signal for the dash temp gauge, and you should get one with a metal retaining clip for this location

.. Hope this helps,
Cheers!!

Given what you're going through, with your temp gauge acting all over the shop and your heater chucking out scorching air without so much as a peep from the check engine light, it's likely your coolant temp sensor's on the blink, or there's summat up with your thermostat or the cooling system as a whole.
Sorry, I've just noticed that it's an old thread. Hopefully, you managed to fix it.

Super helpful thread!!!

I can relate ('10 TDI CATA engine), but mine has a cold engine issue...not warming up and won't hold at operating temp once gets there.

I swapped the T-stat, but then discovered my cooling fans run all the time when engine is on, and if the HVAC is turned on, then they run at high speed, and it's freezing cold outside, so not good...gotta be another sensor issue there.

Next is the cooling sensor swap, but which? Only bought one new sensor My temp gauge never goes hot, no dash lights, nothing. Cooling fans are still running moderate speed anytime engine is on, like they are defaulted to run, and that's the main symptom now, and so that correlates to the G83 sensor location (front sensor) is failed from my research...at least it's the easier one to swap, YES!

I have a 2013 TDI.. threw a P0128, low coolant temperature code . It’s blowing hot air , temp gauge is normal and it’s not losing coolant … so I’m assuming it’s a bad temp sensor . Which one do I replace on a 2013 ?

Hey Pete,
I presume you are using Vcds to scan your Q? If not you should definitely invest in one!!
Anyway, that error code P0128 would usually indicate something is most likely wrong with your thermostat not working properly, and not necessarily the coolant sensors.. I would start by trying to get a VCDS scan done first, which would pinpoint exactly what is causing the problem, if you did and it's P0128, then you most likely need to change your thermostat housing. I would think that you know where it is located on your vehicle.. Flush an change your coolant one time if you can..
Cheers

If the thermostat was bad then it would either be overheating or having trouble coming to temps .. which either one is not happening .

I’ve been reading that the sensors are notorious for going bad .. and so far all symptoms are pointing to it as well .

I don’t have a vcds and I’m not planning on getting it. Only a OBD2 reader.

either way .. can anyone just answer my question and let me know where the coolant sensor is located ?

Ok take it easy, just trying to help!!!
If you read earlier messages on this same thread above, you will get your answer clearly.. Including a link to a PDF document showing exactly where both coolant sensors are located.. I had also posted images and the Part Number... Your 2013 model should be the same as indicated above.. I would change both one time..
Hope doing so solves your problem..
