Dead Hard Drive in MMI (2014 Q7)
Driving on my way to work last week the multimedia system did a sudden restart for me. Since that time the navigation and media has never returned (I can listen to the radio and that is it).
I could also start to hear that noticeable sound of heads beating against the case of a dead hard drive.
Went into the dealer, and yes, that hard drive is toast (Really? Audi put a platter based hard drive instead of solid state? Those things don't like bouncing). Worst part, I go through my warranty periods very quickly, so looking at > $5000 (Canadian) to replace the whole unit.
My question to the crew here, has anyone replaced their hard drive before? And does anyone have a raw image of the hard drive (ISO image) from a mid year 2014 S-Line? The part number on the unit is 4L2 035 766E.
I am struggling with paying that much money to repair a stereo. If it were just the jukebox and nav I would ignore it, but it's my multimedia too.
Thanks in advance for any help, tips, advice, warnings that you can offer.

You may want to try these guys, Audi MMI Repair Center. They now have an office in NY to handle MMI repairs for US Audi vehicles.
Cheers!
