Don't want to go naked
My 2011 TFSI Prestige Q7 just turned 48K miles, however, I'm waiting on the MY 2016 next-gen Q to finally arrive, and I'm reluctant to "go naked" when the new car warranty on my 2011 expires at 50K.
I inquired, and dealer offers an extended warranty (described as an Audi-branded warranty and the same as the new car warranty) with 2yrs/24K miles coverage, $250 deductible, for US $2856. (Seems that the next-gen should be available in the US within 2 yrs, right?) When I buy the next-gen Q, the cost of the extended warranty will be returned to me on a pro-rated basis.
My Q has been bullet-proof, but since repair for a single bit of bad luck could easily surpass the entire warranty cost, I'm leaning toward buying it, but I'd welcome all advice, opinions, kibitzing, etc. Dealer offers the same warranty for 3yrs/36K miles for US $3701, but I'm optimistic that the 2 yr period will get me to the next-gen.
All wisdom will be appreciated,

from what i understand it is not part of the CPO warranty but a dealer purchased fidelity warranty. if that is the case find out who covers the warranty and find out if you have to layout the cash first and then wait for a check or if the dealer and the warranty company work together and you just pay the deductible. lastly get the printout stating what is and is not covered under warranty. they should have several pages outlining the parts.
on the flip side do you feel there is going to be $2900 worth of repairs in the next two years or are you better off setting the cash aside and rolling the dice?

These Audi branded ESCs that the dealers sell are somewhat price negotiable. The price they quoted you seems a bit high, but then again, the pricing gets exponentially more expensive with mileage. I bought the Pure Protection Platinum ESC with our '08 and it was a bit under $2600 for a 4/48 and $250 ded., but it had 32k on the clock when we bought it. I believe if you are still inside the factory mfr warranty, any Audi dealer can sell you one of these branded ESCs. You might try this place- http://fd-warranty.com/audi/
They couldn't sell me an ESC because the car was out of factory warranty (on age, not mileage), but they are known to be very price competitive on these and provide good customer service.
And these Audi branded ESCs are similar in the way they behave relative to the factory mfr warranty, but there are more loop holes, so you need to look carefully at what is covered vs. not. We have yet to use ours, but the dealer who sold us the Q7 and the Audi branded ESC was very clear that for covered repairs you don't pay anything beyond your deductible (per visit, no limit on repair items), so there is no reimbursement process required- the dealer gets paid directly from Fidelity, who underwrites these plans.

You've mentioned your Q7 has been "bullet proof" thus far, which obviously is great to hear and I'm assuming all of the factory recommended maintanence has been done (did you prepay Audi Care?). I would pocket the money and put it towards the MY2016 when it comes out.

Thanks
Thanks for your comments. Further investigation on audiusa.com showed that the "Audi-branded" extended warranty is in fact administered by Fidelity. Also, I put 71K miles on my 2007 Q with no warranty and no problems. So, I'll hope to repeat that experience with the 2011, and take a pass on the extended warranty.

ark,
I am in the same situation as you and considering options - my friend's S4 just had the engine replaced for $8K and 2 months later the transmission replaced for another $8K. Fortunately for him his CPO coverage took care of it, but he had only 2K miles left on the warranty.
I wonder if such a repair(s) were needed for the Q7 could one negotiate a trade-in at the dealer rather than proceeding with the repair? Would the repair costs be figured in? Just wondering.

S8, sounds like your friend was very fortunate to have such major issues covered. I haven't compared the Audi CPO warranty coverage to the Audi/Fidelity extended warranty coverage, but my hunch is that the CPO is much superior.
I have no experience trading in a vehicle that needs significant repair.
The main reason I am foregoing the extended warranty is that I was not able to build any confidence that it would actually pay a significant claim if needed.
